What this is

Travnik.com is an independent guide to Travnik, written for two audiences at once: the people who live here and use it to find a pharmacy or a plumber, and the people who are deciding whether to come.

It is not run by the tourist board or the municipality, and nobody pays to be described favourably. The directory is compiled and checked by somebody in Travnik who walks in and asks, which is slower than copying it off the internet and the reason the opening hours are usually right.

The languages

Every page is published in five languages, and each one is a real page rather than a machine translation layered over the top — because the version somebody reads in Istanbul or Riyadh should be as good as the English one.

What we will not do

We do not invent opening hours, prices or phone numbers to make a page look complete. Where something has not been confirmed locally, the page says so. A guide that is confidently wrong wastes a visitor's afternoon, and they do not come back.

We do not sell a better review. A business can pay to stand out — a photograph, a position near the top of its category, a link to its own site — and that is marked as what it is. What we write about a place does not change because of it.

How it pays for itself

Two ways: businesses that want more than a plain entry pay for it, and we run guided tours and concierge days ourselves. The basic listing is free and stays free — there are over 1,300 of them and no business is ever removed for not paying.
