Travnik Kalesi
The medieval fortress on the ridge above the old town, and the reason Travnik is where it is.
The fortress sits on a spur above the Lašva valley and predates the Ottomans — it was a medieval Bosnian stronghold before it was an Ottoman garrison, and both are legible in the stonework if you look at the joins.
It is a short, steep walk up from the old town. The climb is the point: from the walls you get the whole valley, the roofs of the čaršija below, and Vlašić filling the northern horizon.
Allow an hour if you want to walk the walls properly and take photographs. Wear something with grip — the stone is uneven and gets slick after rain.
