Ivo Andrić was born in Travnik in 1892 and won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1961. The house is modest and the exhibition is small — that is appropriate to the subject.
His novel Bosnian Chronicle (Travnička hronika) is set in Travnik during the Napoleonic period, when foreign consuls arrived in a town that had never had them. Reading fifty pages before you visit changes what you see.
Pair it with the fortress and the Viziers' tombs: together they tell the same story from three directions.
